This combination is known as molecular epidemiology.This study the genetic differences between closely related organisms in order to understand the reason why some cause disease and others are less virulent. employ a variety of genetic techniques, including PCR, DNA sequencing, subtractive hybridization and DNA microarrays to understand the molecular differences within the M. tuberculosis complex and within the M. avium complex.
